November 2018 Fashion Haul

Hey Everyone!

It’s gradually getting warmer in my part of the world and, as it does, I’ve been realising that I have a lack of certain clothing items that seem to be fairly basic closet item. As you know, I don’t think that price necessarily equates to quality so I like to shop at cheap online stores, KMart, Target, BigW and then occasional items in more expensive stores. But I am just as happy with a $8 T-Shirt from Target as I am with a $30 one from Myer.

While I’ll look at my swimsuit haul from Shein in another post, the first store I want to look at is Big W. I actually love Big W and I think that there are some pretty good deals and alright quality with some of the products. Prior to this shopping adventure, I didn’t wear hats and I had never even owned a belt. I always though that my head was too small for hats and I just never really saw the need for a belt because all my jeans fit me just fine. Well, now it’s getting warm and I’d really prefer a bit of shelter from the sun, and I bought a denim skirt a few months ago that requires a belt to stop it from riding up.

Both of these items were $10 each.

I also made myself a new feature wall in my room! I had an odd, empty space between my door and bookcase that wasn’t being used so I hammered in a few nails, much to the joy of everyone in the house, and now I have a place for my hat, belt and bags. I’m not very used to living in a house that we own so being able to hammer nails into the wall is a daunting but fun project that many people may find mundane. I just loving being able to find new ways to make the room my own, even if it just by hanging up some Christmas lights behind my bed or drawing tiny lavender flowers new the skirting board.

Both of these light strings were from KMart.

Moving on from Big W and we are heading away from accessories and into actual pieces of clothing. As soon as I walked into the store, I spied this gorgeous, satiny, mustard wrap crop top with a tie back. As is the case with many items of clothing, it looks quite different on the hanger than it does in person, but I am already picturing it over the top of the next item I bought, with a pair of high-waisted jeans, or with my denim skirt.

Target – Lily Loves – $18

My overall goal was to get some basic pieces that I could pair with a multitude of outfits instead of having 50 separate pieces that only worked with one or two other items in my closet. That’s why I also decided to buy this gorgeous, black linen dress with a faux wrap, ruffled hem detail.

Target – $49

While you may not be able to see all the beautiful, basic details of the dress in this photo, it works well with so many options, and can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. I wore this out to a birthday party the other night and it was the perfect mix between a little bit fancy and just casual enough that I wasn’t overdressed. I wish I had taken a moment to have a little photo op, though, because it was a really fun outfit.

I just did a little wardrobe clean out of items that were just unnecessary or those that I hadn’t worn in six months, and now I can make proper choices about the clothes that I put back in there. My tip for minimising closet clutter is to hang your clothes up with the hanger facing the wrong way to what you normally do. When you wear something and wash it, hang it back up with the hanger facing the right way. After six months, go through and check to see if you really need any of the clothes that still have the hanger the wrong way around. That’s what I do and it has really helped my keep track of what is actually essential to me, especially considering the fact that I don’t love getting rid of clothes that are in good condition.

Have you bought any new purchases that you are just bursting to show or tell someone? Comment below with what you got! I can’t wait to see your styles and maybe get some inspiration for myself.

Hopefully, you’re all having a wonderful week and are reaching your goals. As always, if you would like to see more of me, just head over to my social media accounts or send me an email with any questions or comments you may have:

My Halloween Favourites 2018

Hey Everyone!

It just dawned on me that it’s only 55 days till Christmas and 62 days till the New Year ….

How did the year go so fast? I know everyone says that all the time but I wished for the year to go fast and suddenly I’m 20 years old, about to finish my second year at uni, and I’m half excited and half shocked. But before Christmas and the New Year, there is something just lassed that I wish was more celebrated in Australia … HALLOWEEN!! Now that I’m out of my spooky getup it means I need to do a monthly favourites – spooky edition.

I don’t really have a name for what my costume was but I think it was a little spooky and cool. It didn’t scare trick or treaters but I didn’t mind.

Movies & TV

  • Coraline – this is an obvious Halloween favourite movie for me just because it’s actually quite creepy without making me have nightmares. I still prefer watching it during the day but there’s nothing wrong with that.
  • American Horror Story – I’ve only watched a few episodes from Coven and Roanoke but they are so good! I was more subconsciously terrified because I ended up having bad dreams but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. The story lines are really cool and I love witchy stuff.
  • Paranorman – I was just going to watch this movie because it was fluffy and a kids Halloween movie but it was actually alright. The whole storyline of witch trials and the scene towards the end were really good and pretty intense, which I loved.
  • Hocus Pocus – this movie is a family tradition for Halloween! We’ll settle down with our ghoulish treats and have a family night in between carved pumpkins and ghosts. It’s just a classic and you can’t go wrong with it.

We had a few Halloween inspired dishes for the day although they aren’t all ‘worm cheesecake’ and ‘brain cake’ but more Halloween adjacent.

  • Pumpkin, walnut and bacon pasta
  • Hocus Pocus spellbook brownies

  • Peanut butter spider cookies

  • Chocolate spiders
  • Shrunken head walnut and cranberry pie
  • Strawberry ghosts

Some of our decorations this year…

If you want a tutorial for the cardboard gravestones, they’re super easy and I’d love to do a post on them.

  • I Put A Spell On You – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
  • Witchcraft – Frank Sinatra
  • Bad Moon Rising – Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • Strange Magic – Electric Light Orchestra
  • Devil Woman – Cliff Richard
  • Monster Mash – Bobby “Boris” Pickett
  • Love Potion No. 9 – The Clovers
  • Tonight You Belong To Me – Patience & Prudence

I hope you all have or have had a wonderfully spooky Halloween! I can’t wait till next year.

Halloween 2018: Coraline’s Other Mother Makeup

Hey Everyone!

Halloween is right around the corner and, instead of trying out a billion Halloween makeup looks, I have been finishing my last assignments before the university semester ends and procrastinating those assignments by binge-watching Netflix. BUT … I did have a chance while procrastinating to try out a creepy makeup look inspired by the Other Mother/Beldam from possibly the scariest kids Halloween movie – Coraline. Now, I’m not sure if you’re like this but I have a love/hate relationship with the movie; it’s so good but so creepy but I love it. It used to give me the heebie jeebies and I’d have to scrunch up into a ball on the couch. Nowadays, I don’t have to scrunch up into a ball but I do prefer to watch it during the day time. Enough about me being a wuss-puss! Let’s get into this!

Other Mother Makeup – what I used:

  • Chi Chi Pre-Foundation Primer
  • Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – Snow
  • Rimmel True Match Pressed Powder – Translucent
  • Models Prefer Mineral Powder – Radiant Bronze
  • Maybelline Expert Eyewear Natural Smokes Quad – Shade 4
  • Concealer
  • Too Faced Glitter Bomb Palette – Intensifying Base
  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
  • White Face Paint
  • Morphe 35T Palette
  • Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick – 35 Rebel Red
  • BYS Velvet Lips Liquid Lipstick – 18 Red Wine
  • BYS 1-Day Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner Pen – Black
  • Black Wig

Do your foundation and eyebrow routine as normal and blend concealer all over your eye area up to your brow and below your lower lash line onto your cheeks a little. Take a small detail brush and pick up black eye shadow to create the outline of your button. Fill it in with black shadow and a flat brush making sure it doesn’t look patchy. Mine kept on getting patchy for some reason so this step took a little while.

To create the button holes, I lightly dipped a detail brush into white face paint and made four crescent moons where I wanted the holes to be. Before the paint fully dried, I dabbed the paint once with my finger to dull it a little, wiping my finger on cloth between each button hole. Repeat this step until you are happy with the result. My eyelashes kept getting in the way, which was really irritating, so it may take a while but it’ll be fine.

Once you’re happy with the button holes, clean up the outline of your buttons with a wet detail brush and black eyeshadow. You can add some depth to the buttons by outline the right or left edge of the buttons with lighter eyeshadow and then the, right along the button edge, outline it with a shade just darker than your skin tone. This will help it look as if your button is slightly raised. You can also create a ridge in your button to make it look like the area of the button holes are sunken slightly by using the same method you used to paint the button holes but as a circle surrounding the button holes.

When you’re done that, put on some red lipstick and a beauty mark, and then create some doll-like lines coming away from your mouth. I wish I’d waited and done the lines so they’d be coming straight away from the corners of my mouth when I smiled but it’s alright.

Now all you need to do is set your face with setting spray, pop on a black wig and go spook your friends and family!

If you want to change into the Beldam, watch for my next post coming soon!

I’d also really love some inspiration for Halloween and to see what you’re going to dress up as this year!

My Current Faves – August 2018

Hey Everyone!

So, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything and I really wanted to get something out to you all so, while I’m sitting in bed procrastinating from uni work, I thought I’d tell you all about my current favourite products, shows, things etc. just as a little life update. I know I used to do the occasional monthly favourites post but not much changes for me on a monthly basis; I’m usually pretty stuck in my ways, which can be fairly boring for a update post every month. So, I’ve decided to do them whenever I feel like it! Plus, I like giving a little bit more information out about how I’m actually going and what I like beyond beauty so you can know me a bit more. But if you do have any questions about me, let me know so I can answer them in the next post!

  • Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

My current daily makeup

  • Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate
  • Nivea Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream
  • Simple Moisturising Facial Wash

TV Shows

  • Happy Valley – a British crime show with the , the only, Sarah Lancashire!! I absolutely LOVE her!
  • Victoria – a show about Queen Victoria – I just want more seasons available on Netflix already! I feel like it’s been an age.
  • The Killing – an American crime show this time. I mentioned this in a monthly favourites a while back but I just got back into it to show my sister how good it is.
  • Black Mirror – I’m only watching certain episodes to introduce my dad to the show because he loves stuff like this, and it’s just the best form of procrastination!

  • The Thirteenth Floor – if you like The Matrix you’ll probably like this. It’s a 90s movie about virtual reality simulations and it’s actually pretty good apart from some shocking acting in parts. I like movies and shows that make me think and question, and this one was a GOOD EGG!

  • High Five – Sigrid
  • Strangers – Sigrid
  • Schedules – Sigrid
  • Oh Devil (Radio Version) – Electric Guest, Devin Di Dakta
  • Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again Soundtrack
  • Don’t Take The Money – Bleachers
  • What I Need (feat. Kehlani) – Hayley Kiyoko

Icecream by the beach

New Purchases

  • Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – I’ve had this foundation for almost a month now and I’ve almost played with it enough to write a review on it so keep your eyes peeled for that!
  • Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser – I really love their moisturising facial wash so, since they were having a half price sale at Coles, I thought I’d stock up on the face wash and try a new day moisturiser seeing as my old one is almost run out. I’ll review it when I’ve tested it out properly.
  • Blistex Five Way Protection Lip Balm – my lips have been hellishly dry recently and I think its a mixture of wind, heat, and possibly a lack of B-12 vitamins. My Nivea Lip Balm didn’t seem to be making any impact so I went ahead and bought this to use as well as me chugging multivitamins 🙂

Simple – Moisturising Facial Wash and Hydrating Light Moisturiser

So that’s basically all that’s new and happening for me! I’m in my fourth week of another semester at uni and it’s honestly getting really difficult. I’m doing more courses than I should and they’re harder subjects so I’m really going to have to knuckle down. I’m sorry that I haven’t been posting heaps but that’s the reason. I’m going to try post when I can because I do really love doing this.

But anyway, I hope you’re all doing great and having wonderful times wherever you are!
I can’t wait to hear what questions you have for me and what your new faves are! xoxo

Keeping Occupied On Holidays

Hey Everyone!

I’m coming to the of my uni mid-year holidays right now and it’s also school holidays here in Australia, so I wanted to chat about ways to stay motivated and moving during holidays. This will be a post that motivates me because, if you’re like me, holidays become a time where you accidentally spend the day watching you favourite show, and then suddenly it’s time to go back to school, university, college or TAFE.

Now, it’s not a bad thing to watch your favourite shows or movies to just chill and relax while you’ve got some time to yourself but I know that it can make you feel like you wasted your time off once the holidays are over. So I wanted to look at things at different price points that you can do at home or outside to get the most out of your free time!

  • Start a blog: starting a blog is fairly easy and, when you focus on something you are passionate about, it ensures that you end up filling a fair amount of your time doing something you love.
  • Go to the beach: although it’s winter here in Australia, it’s warmer weather somewhere else! So go to the beach and bring a little picnic of stuff from home and it can be a fun day trip.
  • Go for a hike: I know this may not be for everyone and I thought it wouldn’t be for me, but hiking can be a fun way to exercise, spend time with friends, and explore your local area. If you don’t live in a place where there are hiking trails, there are bound to be walking tracks or you could make up your own!
  • Have a backyard picnic: it’s easy and you don’t have to pay for petrol or bus fares.
  • Get crafty: my sister is already preparing for Halloween so I started helping her DIY some decorations. If you don’t have paint lying around for that kind of art and crafts, grab some paper and do some origami or learn how to knit!
  • Have a movie marathon
  • Organise your room or rearrange it.
  • Read a book you haven’t read or haven’t read in a while.
  • Try completing a large crossword.
  • Exercise: get into a habit of exercising for at least 30 minutes every weekday.
  • Organise your wardrobe.
  • Browse Pinterest for fun bedroom decoration ideas.

  • Learn a new recipe: knowing how to cook is going to be vital for when you are living away from your parents or guardians because it’s cheaper than eating out every night and it can be a fun experience. So learn some basic or funky dishes and desserts so you can enjoy cooking once you’re out of home.
  • Go to a second-hand shop and find some hidden gems.
  • Go see a movie.
  • Make your own little veggie patch: go to a garden and hardware store, like Bunnings, and buy some small rectangle pots, soil and herbs, and you can have your own little herb garden.
  • Dye your hair!

  • Go out to a club: obviously only do this if you’re of the legal drinking age in your country and please drink responsibly. I don’t go out every weekend but it is a fun thing to do with friends every once in a while.
  • Go to an escape room: escape rooms are a clue/detective game where you have to find evidence and codes to be able to find the key to get out of the room. It’s time-limited and an awesome experience to do with friends or family.
  • Go out for a fancy dinner date: get all dressed up and go somewhere nice with a few of your friends!

I hope this helps give you some fun ideas to do during your holidays and I’d love to hear some of your favourite holiday activities! Just comment below or send me an email xo

Love you all and I hope you’re all going well xoxo
